Overview

The Commercial and Growth Director is a strategic leadership position responsible for driving all revenue generation at The Idol. This role is central to expanding our market presence, acquiring new customers, and aligning commercial efforts with our product vision and broader business strategy.

As a member of The Idol’s Executive Board and senior leadership team, you’ll be shaping and executing our commercial strategy across insurance and technology services. You’ll lead and align sales, marketing, partnerships and customer success teams to deliver integrated growth outcomes. This is a high-impact, outward-facing role that champions The Idol’s propositions and ambitions both internally and across the wider market.

Principle accountabilities
  • Leading the development and execution of a forward-looking commercial strategy (up to 5 years)
  • Driving revenue growth through strategic partnerships and new market opportunities
  • Empowering and aligning teams across marketing, partnerships and customer success
  • Championing our incubator brands and representing The Idol externally
  • Enhancing customer experience across all channels and touchpoints
  • Collaborating with product and delivery teams to optimise solutions
  • Overseeing sales governance and ensuring regulatory compliance
  • Owning commercial contracts and leading negotiation
What we’re looking for
  • Deep knowledge of the price comparison and insurance market
  • Demonstrating experience in strategic sales and business development
  • Understanding digital marketing, data analytics and customer lifecycle management
  • Leading cross-functional teams in a matrix environment

  • Showing gravitas in public, media and industry engagements
  • Coaching and developing teams to deliver high performance
General
  • This role has direct impact on £80mill turnover and a resource budget of £2mill. It has 4 direct reports and an indirect team of c.26 people.
  • This is a full-time Monday to Friday hybrid role requiring time in the Penrith office several times a month plus travel most months to Partner locations around England and Wales.
  • Competitive salary and generous benefits including 30 days holiday plus public holidays, performance related bonus, enhanced pension, and generous private medical, family, sickness and insurance benefits, and share schemes. There is also a generous expenses policy to cover travel to the office when required.
