Overview

We are looking for a Senior Developer to join us on a full-time basis. Reporting to a Solution Architect, you will influence and guide the technical direction of projects within a multi-disciplinary agile development team. With deep technical expertise you will be responsible for championing best practice and code quality, ensuring developed solutions meet the expectations of the Software Development Life Cycle, team goals and customer needs, providing technical input to project prioritisation decisions, and mentoring of your peers.

Principle accountabilities

Writing well designed, structured, testable code based upon industry and development best practices.
Innovating, updating and continuously developing and improving software solutions.
Integrating front-end, backend, API, and database systems and services.
Ensuring the quality of your developed solutions by writing comprehensive automated tests.
Interpreting software requirements and implementing these into best-practice solutions.
Defining code development processes within the development team.
Creating and maintaining comprehensive software documentation.
Being aware of emerging new technologies.
Driving the full adoption of Agile methodology.
Modelling and maintaining the standard of the code within the team (code review, code complexity, audit, vulnerability management, maintenance, and testing), and providing feedback to colleagues as required.
Mentoring developer colleagues on coding and technical best practices.
Ensuring development stability and identifying weaknesses within production ready solutions.
Consider, relevant to your role, the needs and objectives of all our customers, including vulnerable customers, to ensure that they receive good outcomes.
Manage the team in accordance with the Company's policies and procedures, so that the team's business objectives are achieved consistently.

Person specification

Knowledge, experience and qualifications

Significant proven experience working in web application development, ideally in a commercial and/or SaaS environment.
Solid understanding and experience in multiple programming languages including JavaScript, TypeScript, and Golang.
A solid understanding of secure coding and development best practices.
Experience working with relational database systems.
Experience optimising PostgreSQL and MySQL databases at scale.
Experience ensuring technical directions to support solutions are communicated and understood by others.
An understanding of how solutions and approaches can impact a wider business.
An understanding of DevOps processes and how applications perform within a cloud-based infrastructure.
Experience working with code management solutions.

Scope

This is a full-time Monday to Friday role working an average 37.5 hours per week.
Hybrid flexible home/office working supported. There is a requirement to attend the office in Cumbria approximately twice a month or as frequently is required to meet the role requirements (expenses will be provided depending on your location).
Salary from £45,000 depending on experience, 25 days holiday plus public holidays, plus performance rated bonus, enhanced pension, and generous private medical, family, sickness and insurance benefits, and share schemes.
