Overview

We are looking for a Software Tester to join our team on a full-time basis. This role will involve working within a multi-disciplined testing team that works across a range of internal squads to support the testing of our insurance comparison partners within the products of annuities, life and travel insurance. Reporting to the Head of Quality Assurance, you will be a key component of our agile testing team, working on testing and reporting on industry-leading customer journeys.

Principle accountabilities
  • Design, write, and maintain well structured, high quality test cases aligned to industry best practices and organisational standards.
  • Interpret business and technical requirements, translating them into clear, testable scenarios and acceptance criteria.
  • Create, maintain, and continuously improve test documentation, including test plans, test cases, and execution evidence.
  • Execute testing across multiple test types, including system, integration, regression, exploratory, accessibility, and data validation testing.
  • Validate changes across UAT, staging, and live environments, ensuring solutions meet business, technical, and quality expectations.
  • Identify, analyse, and clearly document defects in Jira, ensuring accurate prioritisation, reproducibility, traceability, and effective collaboration through to resolution.
  • Work closely with the Test Lead to identify, plan, and deliver testing activities, contributing to accurate estimates and delivery commitments.
  • Play an active role in the Three Amigos practice, collaborating with Product and Engineering to influence requirement definition, improve testability, and drive quality outcomes early.
  • Fully participate in and embrace Agile delivery practices, contributing to sprint planning, refinement, reviews, and retrospectives.
  • Take a proactive, quality owned mindset, focusing on early risk identification and prevention rather than late defect detection.
  • Considering, relevant to your role, the needs and objectives of all our customers, including vulnerable customers, to ensure that they receive good outcomes.
  • Stay informed of emerging technologies, tools, and testing approaches, applying learning where appropriate to improve testing effectiveness and efficiency.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives, helping evolve testing practices, standards, and ways of working across the team.
Person specification

Knowledge, experience and qualifications

  • Proven experience working in a software testing or quality assurance role within a structured delivery environment.
  • Strong understanding of testing methodologies, processes, and best practices, including the software development life cycle (SDLC).
  • Experience in manual testing, with an understanding of automated testing concepts and approaches.
  • Knowledge and practical experience of API testing, including validating data and service responses.
  • Demonstrated problem solving capability with a high level of attention to detail and quality.
  • Familiarity with testing frameworks, defect management tools, and collaboration platforms (e.g. Jira, Confluence, CI/CD tools) is desirable.
  • Experience testing across a range of browsers, operating systems, and devices, including mobile phones, tablets, and desktop environments.
  • Awareness of accessibility considerations and inclusive design principles.
  • ISTQB (or equivalent) certification or working towards a recognised software testing qualification would be beneficial.

Scope
  • This is a full-time Monday to Friday role working an average 37.5 hours per week.
  • Flexible home/office working supported. There is a requirement to attend the office in Cumbria approximately twice a month or as frequently as is required to meet the role requirements (expenses will be provided depending on your location).
  • Salary in the range of £25,500 - £33,000 depending on experience, 25 days holiday plus public holidays, plus performance rated bonus, enhanced pension, and generous private medical, insurance, family and sickness benefits, and share schemes.
